This publication is an attempt to fossilise and critique the fleeting imagery we have grown accustomed to, a push to further digest and examine how all media we consume around us subliminally seep into our views on self-identity, visual and linguistic communication. STERLING WONGCHOI stands to further poke and prod the subtleties of these relationships through challenging the conventions and linguistics of visual culture. Aiming to provide itself as a bridge between the East and West, rather than opting for demonisation or fetishization in the current political climate, the project uses humour and visual language to investigate the absurdities between the two.

The book attempts to illustrate the ambiguity of belonging within spaces, along with concealment, adaptation with buildings, light and shadow through time.
Inspired by the Hong Kong protests and political movements requiring protective gear and uprising, this collection shows the aftermath. Of needing to adapt to a new environment after conflict and feelings of loneliness, isolation and familiarity at times.

Following a break-up, I set myself some rules and challenges to aid my healing process, and to keep me busy.
Pacemaker is a collection of a month’s worth of posts consumed. Forcing myself to screenshot every post on my ‘for you page’, it distracted me from overthinking, bittersweet rollercoaster of scrolling, numbing my brain.
A substantial sculpture of a publication project, pacemaker is a heavy, finnicky, overwhelming project.
in the same way a pacemaker aids in survival, the attention-hoarding apps and phones helped me ease my pain by keeping myself occupied, but not enough to keep me away from moping about in my room, crying from the breakup. In its own twisted cycle, I would be bombarded from funny monkey posts, then an emotional video of a father giving his daughter away on her wedding day, then a realtor estate advertisement. All in the span of a mere 30 seconds.

A performance and investigation documented through three acts where I embark on transforming myself and play with the conventions of a love story. From collecting the remnants of previous relationships after a ‘purge’ in THE LOVER, to revealing the images were doctored and sourced via opening a tinder account to find 7 fake exes in THE LOVED. And finally voyeuristically finding doppelgangers internationally who share my name, and noting the successes and the failures in love in THE LOVERS. My name, my story and image are abstracted and fluid, prompting the question of who I actually am, and what my story is.

Inspired by the lack of buffering time given to budding children in our current society, Maximum Outlook is a publication documenting the awkwardness of human
interactions at times, what happens when strangers are instructed to interact with the backs of an arranged display of cardboard cutouts. Stripping back our understandings of confidently posing with popular iconography at an event, beach sidewalk, and introducing them in the setting of a photoshoot.

Many things are easier to say and to receive face to face
than an apology, to admit you were wrong and to take responsibility for a fractured ego in front of who you
wronged. In the present age, we are bombarded with celebrity apology videos and posts premeditated for
personal gain and exposure across our social platforms. Apologies written and edited by PR teams for damage
control, performed repeatedly in effort to evoke compassion and avoid offence, are these still sincere apologies?
I’m Sorry... features a compilation of people performing a famed celebrity apology initially posted on Instagram, and were asked to perform the script however they see fit, to perform the whole passage, or only a selection, sincerely, or with intonations of mockery. Participants include commissioned individuals contacted over the internet, where they would market their services of themselves saying anything if paid, acting as a commentary on the absurdity of exchange between power, money and performance.
